Cutie-patutie Felt Barrettes
Materials:
Felt (scrap pieces work great!)
Barrettes (I found a box of 30 at Micheal's labeled as Quilt binding clips)
Felt (scrap pieces work great!)
Barrettes (I found a box of 30 at Micheal's labeled as Quilt binding clips)
scrap paper (for pattern)
scissors
sewing machines (optional)
needle and thread
Button and ribbon embellishments
1. making the pattern: first trace around the barrette with a pencil
2. Draw around the barrette trace to allow for a seam (trust me it is MUCH easier this way! <- I didn't allow for a seam and a funny thing happened: the barrette did not fit! ) The seam allowance does not have to be very big since we are using felt.
3. cut out your pattern and pin it on a piece of felt that has been folded so that there are 2 layers. We are making a jacket for the barrette to fit into so we need 2 sides.
4. cut out the barrette jacket pieces
5. Sew the two pieces together around the sides and bottom but leave the top open so we can put the barrette into. You can machine sew or hand sew.
This is what it should look like after you sew it.
6. cut off the extra felt around the edges. Try to get close the seam but not too close that you cut it open (found that out the hard way too!)
7. Now decide what side is going to be the back (since they look the same on mine it did not matter much!) and flip up the top part. See picture below:
8. cut off the top part on ONLY ONE layer. this is going to allow you barrette to slid into the jacket.
9. now slide you barrette into the jacket.
10. Now choose an embellishment. I like to stitch through the hole on the back of the barrette to make sure that it will stay inside of the jacket.
Note: if you are going to sew a ribbon on, it is best to attach it when you are sewing the 2 pieces together at the beginning.
They are so fun to make and with just a little button, or felt flower or ribbon they turn out SO CUTE! I loved doing this because it seemed that with little effort I could get an adorable end product. I can't stop making them!
Now stop reading and go make some for yourself!!!

Repurposed Cabinet Doors
I don't know what it is about old cabinet doors. I just love them! It's like I am drawn to them and I don't know why. I have amassed a nice little collection of doors in many different sizes, and I have just begun to turn those old doors into unique works of art. My first door was a simple project. I painted the carved border red and added a vinyl wall art. Super simple and so elegant!
I listed it on etsy and it sold within a few hours! WOO HOO!
For my second door, I chose an adorable daffodil flower. I LOVE dafodils, but don't like the fact that they bloom once and then you are left with a plain green plant. So, this daffodil can bloom forever! It was hard to list it on etsy, but I am sure someone will love it as much as I do!

Three times each year, there is a large trade days in Stanton, TX. People come from all around with handcrafted items, antiques, music, and lots of food. It's a great time to be had by all!
With that said, I have given myself a goal of creating 50 greeting cards to sell at this weekends' trade days. I have lots of ideas and plenty of supplies! Wish me luck!!!

Brr!!
After temperatures in the 90s and overnight lows in the 50s, I woke up to a chilly 39 degrees this morning when the wind blew the front door open. Yes, it was blowing that hard! What's even better is that it is only going to get colder as the day goes on...it's going to start raining...then sleeting...and I am stuck in a classroom where the heater will not work! I have fingercicles on the ends of my hands and I have been here less than an hour! I fear it will be a LONG and COLD day!!! Hopefully as the students arrive, their body heat will help warm this classroom! :) I had planned to use the time between classes to paint some signs, but I'm afraid it is just too cold for that. I may have to go out to my truck and see if I can scrounge up a blanket!!! (Can you tell I'm not liking this cold weather?!?!)

Ebay vs Etsy
OK, so I removed one of my beloved items from etsy and placed it up for auction on eBay. I know that I will have to drastically undersell my adorable creation, but I am willing to sacrifice it for a little promotion of my etsy store. I placed my etsy store link in the item description. I even offered free shipping [cringe]. I really hope it works to draw more people to my etsy store! In case you haven't visited, here's the link: http://capricecreations.etsy.com/ and if you'd like to see my eBay auction, click here.

So Many Crafts So Little Time
There are SO many things that I would like to do! Painting projects, paper crafts, and even embroidery but I just don't have enough hours in the day. Not to mention that I can't get to my desk right now due to the closing of LadyBugz Boutique. Everything at the store had to come home and I'm still trying to get boxes put away. But, since I can't create at the moment, I thought I would share some of the places I get my inspiration.
http://www.tallmouse.com/ - this website has some awesome craft ideas for every season! Some are super simple (and great for kids) while others are a litle more detailed. This is a great place to start looking for inspiration!!!

Love these colors
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Wow! It has been a couple of hectic days since my last post! On Sunday I was not feeling well so I did not work on my cross stitch at all. I tried to do a little on Monday but I was still not feeling great and I was concentrating on laundry. Yesterday was a super cold day! Bryan and I spent most of the morning on the location of wrecks due to the icy road conditions. Thankfully no one was hurt. So, here is all that I have been able to accomplish on my cross stitch...Is it any clearer what it is? :)

Do you know what this is???
Can you tell what I am stitching? I just started this new kit and after an hour (including sorting the floss), this is what I accomplished. Take a guess as to what it is going to be (and no, it has nothing to do with Halloween). I will post my progress here each day so you can see if you are on the right track. And to keep things fair, I will not confirm or deny any guesses. Just have fun, and who knows, I may send you an extra special prize if you are the first to guess correctly!

Scrapblog
I have been a member of scrapblog for many months but have not really made anything with it. I never seem to have pictures with me when I have the time to play. Well, this morning I finally got to play! I started off with a Chrsitmas theme and I am hooked! This is SO COOL! I have created 3 scrapblogs so far and I haven't even thought about the "from scratch" ones! This will also be a great tool to see how a layout looks with the pics before you commit to a paper layout. And it is SUPER easy to use! Just look at my results!

Happy New Year!
Last night, I was moving our digital photos from the computer on to a flash drive so that the computer would run better. As I was doing so, I came across pics that were taken on New Year's Day last year (2008). The pictures were of me and my family riding Russell's horse. (Russell is my sister's fiance.) Now, to most people, that wouldn't seem like such a big deal, but last New Year's Day was a major milestone for me because I have been terrified of even getting near a horse for a long time!
I grew up riding horses. One of my very first memories was riding a horse while my Daddy led him around the backyard. And Daddy always told me, if you fall off, you've got to get back on. Fast forward to high school. I had a registered quarter horse mare who was part of Dash for Cash's bloodline. She was built for speed and trained for roping. And I HATED her! Finally, Dad decided to sell her and as I was showing her off for a potential customer one morning, I was thrown. I came down head first and landed on a patch of caliche. I don't remember much about that morning. I know that Daddy wouldn't let me back on the horse and I took a trip to the ER where we found out I had a concussion. And a few days later I was back at the ER because my head and eye swelled up (but it was only sinus congestion). So, needless to say, I developed a strong fear of horses after that...
Nearly 15 years later, Russell convinced me to try riding his horse. He was so patient with me (my sister had told him my story). I was terrified until I got up on the horse and then I couldn't wipe the stupid grin off my face. I was acting like I had never been on a horse before! After a few minutes of letting Russ lead me around, I decided I was ready to take the reins. That terrified feeling came back...I was scared the horse would take off or suddenly buck...but he just walked around lazily (he's really too old to do much else). Russell gave me my confidence back that day! And even though I have not been back on a horse (I'm really too fat for that!), I no longer fear giving them a pet on the nose!
And I got some really great pics of my kiddos riding...in fact, I think I will go scrap this one of my wonderful son right now! Happy New Year Everyone!!!
